Delta Children is a manufacturer of strollers sold in chain stores at opening price points. Many Delta strollers are sold under licensed brand names such as Jeep, Baby Gap and Disney. Delta also sells nursery furniture, toddler furniture, bath/potty items and more.
Delta was founded in 1968 by Louis Shamie as a baby furniture and gear store in Brooklyn, NY.
Shamie's two children, Joe and Sam, expanded the business and went into importing/manufacturing, first with cribs and later with strollers. Among Delta's first successful strollers was the Luv Buggy, which featured a quick fold.[1]
When the stroller began selling well in New York City, Louis Shamie suggested advertising it to expand the market.
"My father said, ‘Let’s put it on TV,’" remembers Joe Shamie. "And I said, ‘Are you out of your mind? How are we going to afford that?’"
But Louis Shamie was determined, so they produced a low-budget commercial starring family members. The ad featured two women trying to get on a bus – one who did it easily with a quick-folding Luv Buggy stroller, the other who struggled with a traditional stroller.
"The next thing you knew, the phones are ringing off the hook, with customers asking ‘How do I get the stroller to get on the bus?’" said Joe Shamie.
Toys ‘R’ Us soon became a customer, and Delta’s business grew astronomically.[2]
All Delta strollers are made in China and sold online (Amazon) as well as in stores like Walmart and Target.
Delta has about 30 different models and divides its strollers into five categories: full-size, jogging, lightweight, doubles and stroller wagons.
Flagship Model: Jeep AdventureGlyde Stroller
Delta's Jeep AdventureGlyde Stroller (15 lbs., see price on Amazon), touts its new stroller wheel technology with the promise of easier turning ability and smoother ride. Additional features include:
- 43" all handlebar for taller parents.
- Compact umbrella-type fold with auto latch lock and carry handle.
- Locking brakes.
- Three position recline—for 9 months of age and up.
- Storage basket.
- Cup holder.
- Canopy with pull-down visor.
- Simple assembly.
As for negatives, the AdventureGlyde doesn't have a bumper bar or child tray and while it's lightweight, it is rather bulky. The storage basket is also on the small side.
Other Lightweight Delta Strollers
Delta makes several other lightweight strollers, but the lightest is their version of the gb Pockit: the Clutch (11.7 lbs., see price on Amazon). It has a similar sunvisor to the Pockit and folds down to 15 x 5.9 x 19.7”. The Clutch weighs a mere 11.7 lbs., has swivel front wheels with suspension, comes with its own carry bag and has a storage basket underneath.
Delta Double Strollers
Delta makes five versions of double strollers, all side-by-side. The most popular version is the basic LX Side By Side Stroller (21.4 lbs., see price on Amazon). This lightweight stroller has a maximum carry weight of only 70 lbs.—on average, that means it sits children only to about 36 months of age.
The stroller comes with two independent canopies, two mesh storage bags behind the seatbacks, swivel shock absorbing front wheels, multi-position recline, parent cup holder and compact umbrella fold. It does not have a child tray or bumper bar, but it fits through a 30" wide door frame.
Delta Jogging Strollers
Of Delta's myriad jogging stroller offerings, the Jeep Classic Jogging Stroller (29 lbs., see price on Amazon), offers most of the features parents say they want in a jogger. These include a front swivel wheel that locks, car seat compatibility (Graco, Evenflo, Chicco, and Britax—may require an additional purchase of adapters), and easy fold.
In addition, the Classic has removable 16" rear wheels for even more compact fold, reclining seat, safety tether, parent cup holders, swivel child tray, canopy with extendable visor and a storage basket.
The Classic does come with inflatable tires, which can be a plus or a minus. If you need to replace or reinflate the tube, it can be a bit of a pain. It's also a bit heavy, although only slightly heavier than the Baby Jogger City Select.
Delta Stroller Wagons
Delta sells an entry price level stroller wagon dubbed the Jeep Sport All-Terrain Stroller Wagon (33 lbs., see price on Amazon). The All-Terrain has basic amenities like a single canopy, two cushioned seats, 6" front wheels and 10" rear wheels, compact fold with auto latch and adjustable push-pull handle.
The All-Terrain storage is impressive with an expanding bag with pockets that attaches to the front, a parent organizer bag, and removable child tray. You can also attach a car seat to the wagon with optional car seat adapters. It accommodates Graco, Evenflo, Britax and Chicco infant seats.
One big plus: the seat pads can be machine washed! The biggest bummer about the All-Terrain is its lack of a second canopy. The "all-terrain" wheels also aren't as great as advertised—they don't have knobby treads that would help at the beach.
Safety Recalls
Delta and the Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled 28,000 J is for Jeep brand cross country all-terrain jogging strollers in September of 2017. "The stroller leg bracket can break, posing a fall hazard to infants in the stroller."[3]
